Here is my experience with NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams.

I have the shades are Amsterdam, Monte Carlo, Copenhagen and Transylvania. When I saw the NYX promo photos for these lip creams I feel in love. I only saw the ones from NYX themselves. I never saw any YouTuber or blogger swatches. I which I had.

So let's talk formula first. It is creamy and isn't isn't drying but it isn't entirely smooth. It it's gritty or anything it just doesn't feel as smooth as you'd expect. It isn't gritty but it feels like something may not be mixed all the way.

I can't really tell what about the formula makes it feel like it isn't as smooth as it should be but I think that may be why it comes out patchy.
I was so disappointed the first time I swatched them. The darker you go the more patchy they get.

Like I said it isn't gritty. But the issue isn't the pigment. They are full of pigment! They stained my arm this morning when I swatched them and didn't come off all the way until I showered.

They probably stain because they have to add more pigment since the formula is patchy. I think the problem may be that the formula is a little too thick. It's overly creamy. I know it's a lip cream but they would be less patchy if they were a little thinner.

I was so excited about these creams. Since they are liquid lipsticks/cream lipsticks they do dry and you can add a second coat to make it look better. I don't know what NYX did to their photos but I can't see how they are the same product.

Here are my swatches (Top 4 with sunlight from a window and no flash, Bottom 2 with sunlight and flash):

As you can see the darker they go the patchy they are. I think this is do to the fact that you can see skin though darker shades easier. My swatches from left to right are Amsterdam, then Monte Carlo, Then Copenhagen and then Transylvania.

I was so excited for the berries. I really wish they were a little thinner. The pigment is there. The formula needs adjusting.

I might wear them if I have the time to apply them and wait for them to dry and apply a second coat. But I usually never do. I usually but my lips on while walking for the door.

  1. I'm in love with the soft matte formula, it's so comfortable to wear. I own near enough ever nude shade and London is 100% my favourite. I did find the darker ones to be a bit patchy too but you can build the product up a little <3
