My Top 10 Under $10: Lippies

May 27, 2015

I know I’ve already done Top 10 Under $10 but I wanted to do another one just on lip products. I am a lip product addict so I have tons of lip favorites

Picking my favorites for the makeup essentials Top 10 was actually pretty easy but I still wanted to do a post on just the lips. I’m going to do this one as a countdown as it is all for one product type. If you’re a lip addict you’ll love this post.

I think I may do the lip addict tag sometime in the future. Anyway here are my Top 10 Lip Products Under $10. (These aren’t all lip color. Two are lip balms.)

Beauty Basics - Is there a right or wrong way to apply makeup?

May 21, 2015

So in my last post I told you what all the products are, what they do and where they go. So now the question is applying it, is there a special order it goes on? Is there a right or wrong way to apply it? Getting straight to the point, no.

Everyone applies their makeup differently. The order can change from person to person. Some people start with the base then the eyes and others start with the eyes then apply the base.

There are tons of posts on Pinterest that tell you “the right way to apply makeup.” And while that is no wrong way to apply your makeup there is no right way either.

Some products have to go before others. Like the face base products have an order. But you can apply the cheek stuff in any order your want. The eye primer goes on first and then what goes on the eyes is up to you. You can apply the eyes first then the face base then the cheeks then lips, or the face base then cheeks then the eyes then the lips or the face base then the eyes then the cheeks then the lips. The products in the categories have to go in order but the order you apply the categories is up to you.

Beauty Basics - What are all these products for?

May 15, 2015

If you are really new to makeup the mounds of different products may be overwhelming. There are so many different skin toned things, and everyone is talking about contouring, tight lining, and highlighting. There are these things all over Pinterest about what order to apply makeup and how- to photos that don’t make sense.

I am not a pro makeup artist. You could say I am a self taught makeup artist. I have been playing with makeup for a few years and I have learned from trial and error, and researching. I am not a beginner anymore but I am not a makeup vet either. I don’t know everything there is to know about makeup but I think I’ve got the basics down. Or at least I know what all the products are for.

There are tons of different products. And those products come in different formulas. And most products come in more than one type of package. We have to start somewhere. So let’s start with a list of the basic product names and then go into more detail.

Beauty Basics - Types of Makeup Packaging

May 08, 2015

There are so many types of makeup. There are mounds of products. So many things for the same result. And all the products have so many different packages. Different formulas have different packages.

I was debating whether to do this one or What Products Are For first. I decided to post this one first because in the What Products Are For post I talk about the packages, so I thought I should upload a post going into detail on the types of packages for makeup first.

There aren’t a ton of packages but there are enough of them to get their own post. As there are not a bunch this won’t be too long, at least I hope not. I have a record for long posts.
  • Palette
  • Pot (a compact type thing)
  • Pencil
  • Squeeze Tube
  • Plastic Tube
  • Bottle
  • Twist Up
  • Crayon

Beauty Basics - Makeup Lingo

There are some terms when you’re new to makeup that may seem a bit confusing. Like contouring and tight lining. Beauty is kind of like science in this area, a lot of terms to learn. This is going to be a quick post so I’m only going to cover a hand full. I may do a part two in the future.

  • Contouring & Highlighting
  • Tight Line & Waterline
  • Lippie
  • Drugstore Products & High-end
  • Makeup Dupe
  • Fall-out (eye shadow)
  • Finishes: Matte, Dewy, Shimmer, Glitter, Satin, Metallic

Ulta & Sephora Reward Programs

April 27, 2015

Reward programs are great. A lot of stores have them. Ulta’s and Sephora’s are amazing. I love their programs.

Everyone seems to have reward programs now and you have to wonder if they are even worth signing up. I’ll tell you right now that Ulta’s and Sephora’s reward programs are worth it. They are pretty awesome.

Beauty Rules To Live By

April 22, 2015

In my beauty tips post I mentioned a few of the “beauty rules I live by.” These “rules” are things every makeup user should know and use on a daily basis. There aren’t actual rules so you don’t have to use them. But your skin, makeup, and makeup products will thank you. I use all of these every day. Well the everyday ones, some are a once a week thing. I would never recommend something I haven’t tried or don’t do myself.
